How My Book Publishing Story Can Inspire You to Follow Your Own Dreams
I’m beyond excited to announce that my book, Project Me for Busy Mothers: A Practical Guide to Finding a Happier Balance is now available on Amazon and loads of good book shops.
Without an epidural or morphine, birthing this Project Me book has been a long and sometimes painful process. But like all newborns, once they’re safety delivered into the world, the labour pains are replaced with pride and joy.
I want to encourage you to take action on your own goals and to understand that your BIG DREAMS will come true once you put your mind to it. It’s all about having a clear vision, then taking small, steady steps. One step at a time WILL get you there.
Reflecting back on the time frame of my book dream…
In 2012 I put it on my Vision Board. There was no website, no platform – just a working title and logo. I took the time to type it up and glue it over the top of whatever was #1 in the book chart that week!
In 2013 I joined Marie Forleo’s amazing B-School to learn about how to build an online presence. I created the Project Me Facebook page and then this website – and within a few short months women from all over the world began subscribing to my newsletter!
I’d put Marie Forleo on my Vision Board (alongside Tony Robbins and Oprah Winfrey) right above my book idea having NO idea about B-School or what an influence she’d have on my life!
In 2014 I began running goal setting workshops and then teaching women how to improve their productivity and time management.
In late 2015 I worked one-on-one with a client in London – who happened to be a top literary agent who wanted to represent me!
In early 2016 I got a book publishing deal with Orion Spring (yay!!!) and began actually writing the Project Me book.
In 2017 I finished writing and began the editing process, submitting my final manuscript in October. (whew!)
In January 2018 my book is finally released into the world. (Dream fulfilled!!!!)
Yes, it’s taken me a few years to make my dream vision a reality, but it was all about taking those slow, steady steps. As a busy mother – I couldn’t just run off to ashram to write my book in silence. Besides, how could I understand your struggles if I weren’t working with real mothers all over the world to get into your head and help you find solutions?
And how on earth could I write a book all about living a well balanced life if I weren’t living it?
Prioritise means ‘choose something over something else’. That means something has to give, at least a little, so you can priortise a goal you want to achieve.
Things I wasn’t willing to give in on while pursuing my dream:
My sacred family time, my morning ritual of meditating and journaling, my fitness routine, and doing my Project Me Life Wheel® check-in.
What I chose to give up while writing my book was other parts of my business. I cut back on one-to-one work, I didn’t run any online programmes, I had to bow out of my private Facebook group for awhile. That hurt financially, but I’d rather have a low bank account than be trying to fix my marriage, my family life or my health.
I’m proud of the balance I kept throughout. I definitely walked my talk and lived true to the title of my book: Project Me for Busy Mothers: A Practical Guide to Finding a Happier Balance. I’ve used every strategy I teach in my book and I can hand on heart say they work!
I wrote this book to encourage and support YOU to get the foundations of your life into a stable position so you can clear a path to follow your bigger dreams – and not get so bogged down by the day to day stuff.
What are your BIG dreams? Do you need help getting clarity or moving off the starting blocks? That’s what my book is all about.
Here’s to giving your goals and dreams LIFT-OFF!
EDITED to add this:
What a thrill it’s been to see my own business mentor Marie Forleo write her own book, “Everything Is Figureoutable”. If you’re going to order two books right now – make it mine and hers!
And I cannot recommend her online B-School enough! Read about B-School here. And here are the bonuses I’m now offering to anyone who joins the next round of B-School.
Have you got the FREE & FABULOUS Project Me Life Wheel® yet? It’ll quickly show you where you’re currently out of balance so you know what needs your focus FIRST.

You will also receive the Project Me newsletter to keep you motivated and inspired in all areas of your life.
I won't bombard you or share your details with anyone - promise.
How exciting! It does feel like a long time coming, but it will all be worth it and I am placing my order right now Kelly. I can’t wait to hold it in my hands and to be able to sit with a cup of tea and read it cover to cover. xx
Wonderful, Donna. Thank you!
I will explain that it’s not the kind of book you read cover to cover. After completing the Life Wheel exercise in the introduction, you then head to the life area chapter that you want to focus on first. It’s a workbook that you use time and time again and my dream is that by the time your kids fly the coop, your copy of the book will look beaten up, worn down and very loved! xx
You always give us so much value for free and I am more than happy to buy your book. I have placed my order and can’t wait! Well done Kelly!
I will always provide a good balance between free and paid offerings – and a portion of all Project Me profits go to charities that support disadvantaged mothers. Thanks for your wonderful support, Sally! xx
Yes please do let us know when it’s available in Australia. I will order my copy (and extras for my sister and friends). Can’t wait! Huge congrats on your new baby. 🙂
I will update this post as soon as I have the information, Sarah. Thanks in advance and I hope you enjoy the book! xx
Sarah – I have an update! Book Depository are delivering to Australia / New Zealand and other parts of the world! https://www.bookdepository.com/Project-Me-for-Busy-Mothers/9781409170259 🙂
