Become the Project Manager of Your Life in 2018

How are you feeling about the rest of this year ahead? Are you ready for fresh, clean-slate outlook?

How about making 2018 the year you become the Project Manager of your life?

Take a deep breath, set your intentions and step out of any old grooves that aren’t serving you. If something hasn’t been working for you in 2017, open your mind to a fresh approach.

The energy you put in will show up in your life in many wonderful ways. BIG things are possible for you once you find your focus and put your mind to it.

It was over 10 years ago that I got an idea to use a ring binder folder with colour-coded tabbed sections for each area of my life. I loaded it up with blank, lined paper as if I was all ready for some kind of hugely important project. I had no idea what I was doing, but I felt excited about it anyway.

I figured it was like managing a house renovation with separate sections for plumbing, electricity, interior design and outdoor landscaping. My life needed sorting out in all areas, so I broke it down into Love, Family, Health, Personal Growth, Fun, Money, Work and Productivity. Having it all in one place helped me to feel like a Project Manager. I used my folder to start collecting ideas for how to build my dream life. Once I got organised, things began to improve quickly. This was the birth of Project Me!

Here are some small-step actions to help you become the Project Manager of your life.

Use the Project Me Life Wheel® tool to reflect on your 8 Key Life Areas. What’s working? What’s not? Use a journal or notebook to write down ideas to improve things.

Use an Ideas Into Action sheet to break your ideas down into step-by-step actions so you can get moving on them straight away.

Schedule in a monthly Hot Date With Yourself to re-do your Life Wheel and track your progress. Create a Project Me folder to hold all of your action sheets and completed life wheels. Consistency is is the key to success, but it’s not all-or-nothing. If you do miss a month, jump back in again.

Team up with a friend for accountability. But if this isn’t possible yet, don’t let that be an excuse for not getting started on your own.

Get a hold of my book Project Me for Busy Mothers: A Practical Guide to Finding a Happier Balance. It’s designed to guide you through how to solve any challenges that may try to throw you off course. It’s also filled with my treasure trove of tried and tested resources.

Becoming the Project Manager of your life is empowering. It means getting proactive about your own happiness and wellbeing. Won’t it feel amazing to reflect back a year from now and feel proud of what you’ve accomplished?

I’ve commissioned the wonderful cartoonist Ralph Lazar of Lastlemon.com to create a Happiness Is… especially for us!

Taking charge of your life doesn’t mean being a control freak, nor is it about perfection. It’s about freeing yourself up to enjoy the journey.

Use Project Me as a tool to get off the starting blocks. Set those all-important positive intentions. You have to know what you’re aiming for – and don’t be afraid to aim high! Keep those visions alive by actively working on your Project Me and you’ll be amazed by what you’ll achieve in the year ahead.

I love this Kelly! I keep meaning to share my story on your success stories page. I’ve been following Project Me for three years and doing the life wheel (most months) has really helped me get into a much better balance. I’ll try to put it into words for your success stories page but it’s hard to narrow it down to just one thing! A huge thanks for all of the tools and I’m excited to read your book too. X

I’ll really look forward to reading your success story Jill! Just type the whole thing into the form on the Success Stories page and don’t worry about narrowing it down. I’ll edit it down and include just a portion of it on the site. I’m excited to read it! Well done 🙂

My intention for this week is to get a nice new journal that I will use for my Project Me and to get started on all of this! I find this really inspirational and I’m excited to begin. 🙂

I love this Tamara! I’m such a huge fan of journaling and in fact I started a brand new fresh journal TODAY! 🙂

My intention is to get organised. My house is a mess and I’m drowning in paperwork and this really is the year I am committed to doing something about it. I will appreciate any tips you have to get started. Thanks for the motivation! I’m also going to get your book.

This is a great one Sarah. A cluttered house can really weigh you down emotionally, not to mention drag down your productivity when you can’t find what you need when you need it. I I have greatly reduced paperwork by using Evernote. I use the scanner app on my phone to scan things and then file them digitally for easy retrieval within the Evernote app. If you don’t know Evernote, it can be a bit tricky to learn by yourself, so I do offer a 1:1 Skype training if you’re interested. You’ll be up and running within an hour!

To get started on your decluttering and organisation, schedule in blocks of time to tackle different areas. Treat it like an important project and take pride in doing it! Think of the end result and how amazing it’s going to be when you’ve completed it. One small step at a time will get you there!

Thanks for getting my book. More tips in there in the Productivity chapter! 🙂

My intention is also to MAJORLY declutter! I constantly feel like I am drowning in “stuff” clothes, toys, papers etc…I like the idea of everything has a place, I am soooo motivated to do this and properly nail it. I’m hoping this will reduce the need for constant tidying, and allow me more time for me and with my family…watch this space!
Can’t wait for the book to drop through my letter box at the end of the month!

Liz, I love the book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying. It seems to be either a love it or hate it thing, but I found her system for clearing clutter really helpful and even now, I have a ‘right’ place for everything and I’m pretty consistent with returning this to their correct place which saves it from getting out of control.

See also my comment to Sarah above about using Evernote for paperwork if that’s an issue.

You’ve done my online Goal Setting programme so you have the action sheets you need for this great goal. Use them! Keep me posted – you’ve got this!! Thanks for ordering my book. 🙂
