Revealed: The Secret to Becoming A Fulfilled Mother

Are you on autopilot, going through the motions day in and day out, putting out fires and dealing with everyone else’s needs?

Have you lost sight of your goals and dreams? Do you crave something more, but can’t quite put your finger on what? Does it feel like something’s missing?

If you’ve slipped into becoming a C.R.U. (Child Rearing Unit), there’s good news.

The secret to finding fulfilment is here for you right now, starting today.

Self Awareness is the answer.

If that sounds a bit ‘woo woo’ to you, hold on. It’s a lot less hippy-dippy than you think.

On a basic level, self awareness simply means becoming conscious of your thoughts, moods, feelings and behaviors.

On a deeper level, it’s about understanding your values, needs, wants and desires.

When you begin to deliberately focus on your emotions and thinking, a shift happens. You begin living consciously and with more purpose. Doors open and opportunities present themselves to you.

Becoming self aware is a skill you can develop in your own time, in your own mind, little by little, every day.

Here are 4 small ways to start bringing more self awareness into your life:

1. Notice your moods.

When you feel yourself slipping into a real funk, catch yourself out. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that you choose your mood. No one else can make you feel anything. The choice is always yours. As you begin to pay more attention to your feelings, observe the natural highs and lows that ebb and flow throughout your day. Notice what makes you smile or laugh. Start to reach for better-feeling thoughts. You won’t be able to snap out of a terrible mood instantly, but you can bring yourself up the emotional ladder one rung at a time if you pay more attention to how you’re feeling.

2. Listen to your self-talk – your inner voice.

Be aware of the inner critic putting you down, telling you you’re not good enough. Don’t believe a word your inner critic says – it’s like a bad roommate living in your head. When you notice that voice putting you down again, don’t get caught up in it. Let it go. Over and over, until those words sound like ‘blah blah blah’ with no real meaning.

3. Keep a journal to track your moods and emotions.

Use it to express your feelings, sort out problems, clear your mind. There’s no better way to gain self awareness than by getting in touch with yourself. Start by asking yourself – how am I feeling? Or – what’s going on in my life that needs some figuring out? You’ll be amazed at how the ideas flow once you put a pen to paper and let it out. Try it and see.

4. Read inspiring books.

Check out the We Love page for books to get you thinking positively and make you more self aware. If you’re out of the habit of reading or think you don’t have the time, buy an inspirational book and commit to a few pages a day to get you tuned in again. We all need regular doses of inspiration!

5. Set goals for yourself.

This doesn’t have to mean running a marathon or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Simply look at each area of your life and write down how you’d like those areas to feel and be. I created the Project Me Life Wheel Tool to help you separate your life into eight areas so you can break it down and get clarity.

Becoming a fulfilled mother is a process that’ll take you on a journey of self discovery. The more you understand yourself, the more you know what you want and need. Seeking personal fulfilment doesn’t mean you’re being selfish. The greatest gift you can give your family is your best ‘you’. Feeling more fulfilled means you’ll have more to give.

I’m running my next Back to ME! 4-week online programme to help you set personal goals – and see them through.

Awesome blog Kelly! Self-Awareness is the key to freedom. The more self-aware you become the more control you have over your life!

Thank you Elizabeth! It’s important for women to know that self-awareness isn’t just hippy woo-woo talk. As you’ve rightly pointed out, it’s the KEY to freedom and control. Thanks for joining in! 🙂

My journal days…. oh how I miss them. I am going to go buy a nice one to start writing in again!
I just starting reading Daring Greatly by Brene Brown… so good! Must read!

Good for you Cherie! My journals have saved me so much money in therapy over the years. Getting my muddled thoughts out of my head and onto the paper makes me see things straight and I often end up with some great ideas to make things better for myself. Excellent book – glad you’re enjoying!!!
